    Xerox Scanner help

I doubt if anyone can help with this as I have tried most things..but anyway...My scanner, which I bought back in 2006 is a Xerox 4800 Flatbed, which was very good..I say was as it hasn't worked since I upgraded with new computer from windows XP to windows 10...10 doesn't support it!..So I haven't been able to use it since November. I have tried various sites recommenced by friends but none of them support that model...So I have almost accepted that I will have to junk it and get new...seems a shame...if anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated!!...thanks in advance...leg'.

That happened to many of the scanners I knew, and to me, when we moved from XP to Win7. It's been a problem for a long time. We're still waiting for Microsoft to reimburse us for our now-useless scanners.

Issue is zero driver support in the new Windows OS versions. You would need to reinstall the old XP OS on to perhaps an older/discard PC, install the old XP program, scan and then x-fer to a new PC for this idea to work. Or add a new linux partition/drive to your existing PC with a linux variant that supports the old scanner.

If it's OEM XP software it would have to be on the same computer but possibly on a second drive. Maybe it can boot from a thumb drive.

If you upgrade the OS - like legin did - there is no support for this OEM XP software on/in 7,8 or 10. Typically, these drivers are quite unique and not general like those for most other devices in your system. Think of MAD magazine and their planned obsolescence skits.

I may encounter a similar problem with my scanner. I keep a full backup of xp on a second drive
so in my case I could just swap drives as desired. I want to use one of my older computers to learn Linux.
I think you can boot into linux from a thumb drive.

Yep, if you have a full image backup or just cloning the XP drive before upgrading to 7,8,10 would solve that, then you just boot from the cloned drive with XP and drivers et al and boot from the 10/8/7 drive when done.

Did you try a web search for Xerox 4800 drivers? I found this:

    Xerox 4800 Drivers Download

    Description: Xerox 4800 Driver Installer
    File Version: 8.5
    File Size: 2.33M
Supported OS: Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP

That doesn't mean these will work. There were other sites.

Be sure to run a virus/malware scan on your
downloaded before executing a driver installation file.

careful with some of these sites, they can contain adware/spyware/malware. Use an IP rep site to make sure they are legit.
