BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Ann Austin was one of the most popular and long-active models of the ‘generation’ that began their careers in the later 1950s (like Lorraine Burnett, Paula Page, Rosa Domaille, Jackie Parker). In an early edition of Russell Gay’s QT she is described as the ‘most exciting new discovery of the year’ – the year was probably 1957 – and she had the distinction of being the very first model to be featured in Harrison Marks’s famous Solo series.

In a reminiscence of Ann published in Fiesta in the early 1980s, photographer Roger Davis recalled:

Quote:

‘there was no capacity for harm in her make-up. I doubt if she was capable of rage, or even stress … I suppose the most important physical difference between Anne and the other models was her height. The others were mainly small girls – in height anyway, progressing to medium. But Anne was tall, certainly five feet ten inches – in shoes at least, really high ones more. I’m six foot, and I know I always felt the need to stand up straight and tall as I could when I was with her.

‘Anne was a big girl, Junoesque, but all the same assembled with enormous skill, so that everything balanced perfectly. If you didn’t think you liked big girls, Anne could make you change your mind … To cap it all, Anne was strikingly beautiful, with wonderful colouring, dark hair with coppery natural tints, and green eyes. A knockout …‘She was a well educated and intelligent girl, softly spoken, and without any extreme accent, although from her background [middle-class, Kensington] one might have expected that … Money was obviously no problem in her family and I can only assume that she was modelling because she liked doing it, not from need’.

This from a correspondant: "She, or another Ann Austin, was once 'kidnapped' and 'held to ransom' by students as a rag week stunt. It was reported in the national press at the time along with a picture of what looked like her in a bikini. It appears that she was modelling for a life class at the time."
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Ann Walker was an immensely voluptuous model and one of the really big stars of the Harrison Marks era. She was reportedly in the business for about 5 years, having begun as an artist's model, before switching to photographic work. Although she probably posed for every major photographer in London, the only ones known of for certain are listed above. Towards the end of her career, she lived with the photographer, Ed Alexander for about 18 months. It was he who persuaded her to open the Annie Walker model agency, which spe******ed in supplying nude and topless models. Nina Carter and Jilly Johnson were among the girls on her books. She did a post-retirement shoot for Mayfair magazine in the 1980s. By this time she was in her mid 30s, and had slimmed down considerably to 34-22-34.
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Although somewhat forgotten nowadays, Annette Johnson was one of the most important stars of the entire Harrison Marks era. In terms of popularity she was eclipsed perhaps only by June Palmer and Pamela Green; in 1963, becoming Britain's highest paid nude model. The daughter of a coal miner, (Parade Magazine says her parents had a farm) she began modelling at 16 for her employer, a shoe shop owner who kept a studio above the premises. Once he'd coaxed Annette into doing nudes, he took her to a camera club in Urmston, Lancs, where she did a nude set for a group of 16 photographers. She described the evening as "a real baptism of fire", but said that the experience turned her into a professional. She retired from full time modelling about 1970 and moved back to Leigh to nurse her ailing father. She did though continue to work for camera clubs in the north west, making a brief comeback in the 1980s, when she did a photo feature for Fiesta magazine.

This information has been abstracted from an interview with Fiesta (1981), which accompanied her photo feature. Asked by the interviewer what she thought of sex, she said "It's the best thing since sliced bread."

Annette also did several features for Knave Magazine, guesting as an 'Agony Aunt' - whether it was ghosted or she wrote her own material is unknown.

UNVERIFIED INFORMATION
Annette also said that she'd never married and was currently living with a woman friend and seven cats...
