wow. what have you done? you have managed to slow down a perfectly good site to a crawl. everything you click on takes forever to load, if it loads at all. is this the new site? will it be fixed. if not, i'm outta here. i can't stand the long pause between steps. what were you thinking? unbelieveable:confused:

and once into any gallery, loading an image is becoming more of a career than a quick job.
tried in Opera and IE6 so far, both the same.

It takes over 5 minutes to view an image. Most of the time this web site times out. I have no problems with other sites but this one is by far the slowest crawler I've seen. Absurd!

I would think you would all have a little more patients than you seem to have ---the owner of this site has put out a good bit of money to upgrade the software ---yes there is some problems but he is working on the problems ----what do you expect for free ---you could at least support the guy is trying to improve the site ---to make it better for all of us ---Click on our sponsors if you can not click in the gallery ----post pictures in the forum to look at until it is fixed ----you know he has a life besides just this forum
he can not spend every minute of his time working on a free site --he has a family too ---so lets cut him some slack ----

I belong to a couple of other EZ board forums besides this (both American History related) and both have the same problems and worse than are experienced here, they have both been down for weeks at a time and both seek $ contributions to keep things running.
Tiger and Rabbit have never sought contributions, just ask to click on a sponser, they are the ones that keep this site free. If you feel you have to give the site a rest for awhile and then come back later, then do so, take a breather. Threatening to leave something that you have no real investment in is a empty threat. Leave, take a break, spend $19.95 a month for Pinup Files, then come back...we will still be here working for you.

Me again, sorry.
It's worth saying again that the galleries seem to be running moreorless OK so by changing screen res to 640x480 the thumbs are not at all bad. I found that I had to go into the control panel to get my vid card driver to do this as the plug 'n play thingys that you get by right clicking on the desktop only went down to 800x600, maybe not even that. Have a play about (with care!!). It works.

Patience. This site rocks for the most part so I am not complaining. Glad to know there is others with loading time concerns. moderators are well aware apparently. the nice thing about free sites is lot more page visits. the bad thing is the only revenue is banner ads and what i can guess is pro bono frustration for some members.
It also seems that with the forum you get a community of sorts. That has recently been promoted with a private category, which is something to aspire to. Community is a good thing. I feel like a member of the "big tit lover" community which gives me great sense of belonging. And a sense of longing... for big tits.
The internet and more specifically, internet porn, has catalyzed the demand for instant gratification that marks this time period. When sites run slow or have tech diffs. people get irritable, impatient, rude. This site has some unique qualities because there are a few connosiors of erotic art and people with a sense of history. Wanking to images created a century before i was born gives me a sense of history.
So if the owners of this site are target ********* to a group with patience it may be easier said than done. I just hope this site remains up and running and continues to provide quality content.
p.s. give me the password to the private gallery. :)

Is it any surprise that the average # of people on this site has dropped off more than 10 fold in the past year or so? Nobody has patience for such a slow site, so before this thing completely dies, I'd suggest the admins try adding some bandwidth.

Excruciatingly slow to navigate through this otherwise totally awesome and unique resource. Has been this way for months. I much prefer the simple HTML affair the owner had going a few years ago, where the pictures were catologued by the model's name. Much more efficient than this bloated site.
Just so you know, admins, I am computer literate and I am grateful to you for working on this site for free. But cleaning out the cache has nothing to do with why this site is so slow.
I suggest maybe you stop using the BBS software and take it back to the simple and easy HTML site it used to be.

I think what chester said seems like a great idea...OK Im no computer wizzard or so but everything should be well worth trying to get up the speed.
Iīve been a member of this site since the old dayīs when Paulos ran it,and back then the design and everything was much simpler but The BIG DEAL is in these days the speed worked fine so.
Iīll appreciate all the fine work everbody does for the site and the fact that itīs for free.
But if itīs gonna be so slow like it is now I am affraid that many members just give up and dont log in or upload pics anymore and that would be a really big shame because I love My Archives and itīs members so much and I think the site is The nr1 retro/vintage site in syberspace.
Best regards Orvar.

What I am saying is ---I have the same access to the site as you the member does ---I am not having the same problem you are ---if it was a site problem we all would have it -----I have loged on as a member under a different name ---not as an admin to prove this point ----I do not wait over a second for a pic to open ----it is lightning fast ----I use a dsl modem ---
now if it were a site problem ----I would have the same slow connection you say you are having ----and so would everyone else ---but only a hand ful have even complained about slow access -----so that tells me there is a setting on your browser or firewalls ---or something ---cashe or something that is slowing down your connection ---maybe spyware or adware ---I do not have your computer in front of me ---but something beside the site is wrong ----the server is not loging and over load now ---

bummer. I look at the site on rare occasion now because download time is so slow. i figured admin would have gotten it together by now. oddly its only the galleries that load slow. there are other sites that do the same but dont have this problem. guilting people into clicking banner ads never works.

ya know it is funny ---but only a hand full of members are having a speed problem ----Since I cleared my computer of adware and spyware ---I find this site on of the fastest on the net ---Kind of hard to fix a problem when you can not find one----out of over 16000 members I have heard from maybe a dozen or so about a speed problem ----if it was a site problem we all would have the same problem ---including me ---as I have the same access to this site as you do ---by internet connection ---I am no where near the server site---

Rabbit, the speed issue isn't with the forums, it's with the galleries alone, which are still absurdly slow.
Example test today:
http://www.myarchives.net - takes about 10-12 seconds to load main page
http://www.myarchives.net/gallery/ - about 10-12 seconds for the list to populate
choosing a gallery at random:
http://www.myarchives.net/gallery/browseimages.php?c=188 - about 14 seconds for page to load
choosing one image on that gallery (deliberately chose a small one):
http://www.myarchives.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=88283&c=188 - 34 seconds to display a 29KB image
I am on 2gig broadband, always clean my cache and history, always check and clean out any adware, and never see such slow response times on other picture sites. I should also say that I have set the gallery to display only 30 images at a time, no more.
Continuing the test:
1) going back to main page and choosing "galleries" - 13 seconds to load page
2) choose a different gallery - http://www.myarchives.net/gallery/browseimages.php?c=27 - 21 seconds to finish loading
3) choosing three images to download in three windows (each image is below 75KB) - the images open one after another after 51, 55 and 59 seconds.
I don't know if any of this helps or is even relevant, but you can see that I am also suffering with slow speeds.
jugzluva
03-17-2007, 05:42 AM
One final test:
Open a gallery, open a picture in a different (background) window, go back to gallery and download the nexy page of 30 images, choose another image to download in the background. Do the same on the third and fourth gallery pages.
The first image selected eventually appears after 2 minutes 25 seconds.
The rest follow some time after that.
Surely this cannot be right?
Rabbit1
03-17-2007, 05:50 AM
and I do not know the answer to your problem ---as I check the gallery first thing when I log on ---and it does not take a second for the gallery to populate or to load any image for me ---like I keep telling you if it was a site problem ---I and everyone would have the same problem ---I do not have direct access to the server ---I get on the same way --I have a dsl modem ----so can anyone answer that ---why it is slow for some and not for others???? the server is not even straining now as a forum was moved off of this server ----
I do see the server stats from the admin panel ---and again it is not that as an admin I have direct access to the galleries ---I logged on as my alter ego --just a plain member and still get the same speeds ---we can tweak the server setting if it shows a strain or slowdown ---but when it shows no problems --there is nothing to fix----I am open to suggestions ---if there are no errors in the log ---and the server speed shows no strain ---and some members are not experiencing slow speeds but some are ----there is not much that can be done as it does not appear to be a server problem

Okay, this is the final comment, I promise.
I posted (or tried to post) a comment on one of the pictures I opened, while opening a gallery and another picture in background windows.
At the time of writing, the comment had still not been uploaded after 18 minutes, so I closed the window.

I do not doubt it but I have had several members say they had the same problem ---the all of a sudden they found it speeded up ---now weather it was from an update or a change of their settings I can not tell you ---I know when mine speeded up ---after removing the adware and spyware off my computer ---but that does not seem to help others having the problem ---I also notice newer members not having as much problem as the older members ---I can not explain that either ----

I echo Orvar's comments, there seems to have been a turbo charger fitted somewhere down the line.
At present the site is almost back to the speeds I used to know, if it lasts my heartfelt thanks to whoever.

I also like the new layout and the site has certainly speeded up compared with a month ago, although not quite up to what it was last week. I will now try to post the playmate pictures have been trying to do for the last 6 months.
As I mentioned in a previous post, the speed of the site does slow down during the day, at least for me here in the UK. I suspect this may be due to the greater traffic on the internet once most of the US has woken up.
Many thanks for all your hard work it is much appreciated.
