ok once again this site is on a shared server ---and until we generate enough money thru people clicking on the ads ---we will have to remain on this shared server with other sites
just because there seems to be no one here does not mean the traffic is not heavy on the server as the other sites get busy too ---so just bear with it and vist our sponsors often

Ive also noticed that the system is extremley slow, not everyday but from time to time it is really slow.
But Iīll guess itīs something we have to live whit until The Site can afford to be on itīs own Webhotel our server Iīll guess....anyway this site is a free site and itīs a great site so...

Thanks Tiger ---I think a lot of it is we both have been on the site working in the back ground --me moving folders in the gallery and I am sure that slowed things down some ---now that I have completed the work I had to do --maybe it will speed up some also

Chengny putting in his two cents;
Can't we all just chip in a few bucks? Generate a discreet billing locale that wouldn't attract attention. Something like, oh I don't know, "Vintage Preservation Society", and not like "Prime Pussy From the Past". Allow it to accept all major credit cards and Pay-pal type transactions.
I'd much rather fork over USD 20 once a year than have to endure all that advertising crap! Is that enough? (20 bucks X 500 core members = 10K) - or am I so far behind the times as to be way off on the cost to maintain a site?
I will now dismount my soapbox. And remember; THE MEEK WILL INHERET THE EARTH!
Um - if that's alright with the rest of you guys?

I would rather do this and be sure than click on advertisers in hopes of a possible faster server. For the last week any time I log in and try to view pictures (and I mean anytime, like 3am?) they either won't load at all or it takes 5 even 10 minutes at best for them to pop up. The new layout is good but if it doesn't work why should I bother? I'll still check in here but until the speed issue is fixed I won't be uploading any pictures.
Finally, if Orvar, the best and brightest of us has checked in on this issue, you know it's bad.

The only part I regret is not being able to say thank you to the generous folk who dig out these wonderful photographs and upload them.
So this is the opportunity.
Thank you all!

And I thought it was just MY computer...
I keep getting the "Cannot find server" page...or, I have to keep inserting my password...or, finally, I gnash my teeth, curse the darkness...and go to bed.
Unfulfilled.
Since I do not do credit cards or paypal...I don't know how I could contribute. I'd be willing to fork out...oh, $100/year to keep this site open ( still haven't found the location of Master Orvar's stash...damn the luck ) as I really do like the whole buch of you guys.
Oh, well...keep your fingers crossed...and pray it all works out for the best.

Rabbit1, the weird thing is that for the past week when I click on the penis-extension ad, I get a new window which opens a blank screen and the browser says "Done". I don't think these clicks count.

I tried logging on before 9:00am GMT (that is not a euphemism. incidentally) to see if the lower level of traffic (4:00am in the USA) would help.
I actually managed to get a few of the latest Candy Samples pictures to open. I had a cup of tea while I waited for the image.
That represents an improvement on recent performance.
This is a retro site, so I suppose I could pretend that Im revisiting the days of dial-up internet access.
Remember the thrill of the slow picture build up?
It used to feel like you had opened a jazz mag at the centrefold and were slowly peeling an opaque sheet of glass from the image.
I also notice that I cant navigate around as well as I used to.
I often have to log on again, even though I havent left the site!

Why dont take a small member fee once a year or so to support the server costs etc and get the site working and running like it used to do?
Or does someone else have a better suggestion of the action that must be done to come up whit itīs very welcome indeed.
For like it is now itīs not working and thatīs a fact.
Best regards Orvar.

Gentlemen I have noticed by experimentation that when we try to open a photograph and then fail (get timed out or "cannot find server") the counter for number of views of the piccie still go up as if we have opened it.
This also happens if we try opening several pictures in new windows ("open link in new window").
How very odd!

That would be great. I absolutelly agree with.:bra
For adminstration:
Please note, that possibilty to pay through www.paypal. system would be very sutible for visitors from other countries than USA. :)

And...what is more...the counters click up if one voluntarily bombs out while the progress meter is part way across.
This means I'm not going to get jealous that others have been able to see newly posted piccies when I can't - the numbers shown are just attempts, not successful viewings.
Science is all!

Sorry to be a bore...Further to the note immediately above, it appears that if you are lucky enough to get a picture open then you can post a quick reply without waiting for the image to refresh. You just need to wait for the progress bar to chug about 4 or 5 blobs across.
So we can still chat about the gorgeous piccies!!

I actually run the Webroot programme "Window Washer" each and every time after I've been on the net.
It clears out all of the places on the PC that I didnt even know existed but it doesnt help speed up the performance of the Myarchives site on my machine.
Window Washer is available as a free download. It runs for a limited period of time but, if it helps anyone to speed up their PC's performance, then it's well worth trying.

running your pc with antispyware, cleaning your cache or register regularly, it does not help and it is not the core problem. myarchives has turned, i'm sorry to say, from the number one vintage site on the net to the one to avoid if you want to save some time for a social life. i really do not understand why it has to go this way, whereas for example dave johns site has the speed we need with a picture library like this. it is a pitty, this downfall of vintage empire.

I don't think everyone has the same problems with viewing the pics--and i'm sorry if you do but i run a standard pc, 1 year old with an 8mb connection. I don't have it overloaded with useless programs and clear my cache regularily.
Occasionaly it can be slower than usual here, but never minutes to view pics or browse the site. I just don't know why it is for others. :(
Remember, we do share a server with other site/s.

kevin, members will obviously only post if they are seeing poor response but everyone who has pm'd me or posted has complained about system response. from my own point of view the system is very fast if i can view a pic in 40 seconds - it is usually over 90 seconds and as often as not times out without returning. i use two machines - a 3.2 Ghz 64 bit Intel using XP/IE7 and a 700 Mhz Intel Celeron using 98/IE6 - i have a 10Mhz connection (upgraded from 4Mhz). the response on both pc's is the same - very poor. the response times on my neighbour's pc is the same - he has a 56Khz dial up connection. as you are the only one i've had contact with whose response has been unaffected i would welcome any posts from any other members who have not been affected by slow response - and are able to view pics in 2 - 6 seconds. it might help to locate the problem.

There seems to be two threads going on this subject, and I posted the following on the other thread a couple of days ago:
"I am also finding the same problem - the site and thumbnail galleries are reasonably quick at loading, but individual pictures can take anything from 2minutes upwards to download and quite often they repeatedly "time out".
Also I have not been able to upload pictures for some time now as the process always "times out" before completing.
I am running a reasonably fast PC with an 8 meg broadband connection and all the usual (and some less ususal) antivirus/adware software. I have tried different times of the day - the least bad seems to be before 10.00 am (GMT). If I leave it until the evening then even the basic site sometimes won't load, and as for logging out - forget it.
Please don't take this as another whinge, as I appreciate all the hard work that is put into making this one of the (if not the ) best site out there. I just feel more and more frustrated that I cannot fully enjoy the results of all the Moderators hard work nor can I sensibly contribute to the site."
As mentioned above my least slowest times are before 10.00am GMT - before the USA is fully awake - could the problem lie in our location - in the UK (I am based in Kent). I have in the past found that downloading certain programme updates from the States to be far quicker very early morning or at night. Just a thought.

Hi all
I have been away for a while and have come back to check out some old favorites.
The site looks new and flashy but it is so slow. I don't remember it ever being as slow as it is now, why?
Most time I try to go anywhere the link just times out.
I have used both firefox and IE and with no difference, it still takes forever to get anywhere.
Any suggestions, is it at my end? I do have 512 adsl on a fast server so I'm sure the line is fast enough.
Yours disappointed :frown:

yes mine is so slow as well it's almost not worth the time waiting for these pictures. This is the only website that my computer does this on. It must be something with the system. It never use to be like this.

The problem is not adware, spyware, etc. The website just crawls along. The material posted on the site is superb - but it would be nice to gain access to it some time before the Earth falls into the Sun!

There is no easy answer to this, i have never had a major problem here, unlike others - it could be any number of things.I know rabbit and Tiger the site owner, have tweaked and tweaked.
Rabbit1
05-15-2007, 09:09 AM
yes that is correct ---we all have the same access to the site as far as connections ----thru our individual ISP----and according to our modem speeds and software on our own computers ---also according to if we have adware or spyware---fire walls ----and so on
we have yet to find out why some have problems and some do not ----I have heard a lot of different member do different things to their own system and have no more problem ----Tiger and I have tweaked the server and software as much as it can be ----I had a problem and got rid of spy/ad ware and had no more problem ----someone else changed a firewall setting on their system and had no more speed problems ----some never had a problem at all ----so your guess is as good as mine ---but the web site is not crawling or we all would have the same problem ---simple as that ----I can understand if it was just a matter of a DSL or a Cable modem against Dial up ---but some have the same problem with the faster modems ----what we can not understand is why some have the problem and some do not----
it is easy to say well your web site is just slow ----but the other sites on this server are not slow ---and like I said some members never had a problem with speed here at all ----
so if someone can explain that I am all ears
