Instead of just uploading to Rapidshare without an account it is worth the effort to get a free collectors account - that way your uploads don't get deleted after 10 downloads.

I agree.

I have one of those Collectors Accounts. In addition, if you collect 10,000 Rapid Points, you can convert them and get a month's free Premium membership which means no waiting times for downloads.

I've got one now that expires on March 31.

I started out with a Collectors Account about two years ago.
It very fast generated points and I converted it to a Premium. You can transfer your existing files to the new Premium - and they will still generate points.

I have more than 100.000 points ( = 10 months Premium) generated. So, if you are a regular poster and downloader it is a very handy thing to have.

The point with a registered account is that your files are always available. They will never be deleted again. As long as RS does not receive request from copyright holders they will never delete any files (except for cild porn or similar violations according to the laws). Vintage material is on the very safe side.

Your personal information is well protected at RapidShare, and they are not as spammy as the other sites.

There are also many nice features:

If you allow (and keep) the RapidShare cookie in your browser cache you have the option (on the site under 'Settings') to start any RapidShare link to start downloading immediately without having to go to the page first. This means no advertising at all.

A couple of month ago a new Security Lock was introduced. That means your account can't be changed in any way (no file deletion, moving, change of personal settings etc.) unless you deactivate it again. Rather safe, every code has 10 digits.

I have two accounts now, one collector's account which I started with and I got a premium one from a moderator on another forum because I really rock and threatened him to stop uploading. How could he refuse? :wink::tongue:

On the collector's account I just accumulate Rapidpoints. I use the points on the premium account to extend my premium membership every month. Started in January I have now been able to extend it until July. When I am one year ahead I'll start to save points on the premium account as well. In total I already saved up to 90,000 points since the end of January.

to me, being an engineering type, i like the simple logistics of paying for some time up front, not having to wait, having multiple dl's, and knowing that if i contribute, i can get it for less as time proceeds.

I do not pay for HS internet to wait like I was on 9.6

After a point you pay, for service. Paying $20 for three months allowed me hundreds in no wait downloads from this site.

I am now a retro junkie. That cost me more in time just finding stuff.

I didn't know where to post this but kevin is there a way for me to download stuff off rapidshare w/out having to wait for the timer and having to wait till my maximum download counter is gone because there are a lot of pictures and movies that are uploaded to rapidshare and i always exceed my maximum download capacity on just one download and it would take me forever to download movies

If you want a free rapidshare account, you'll best start with creating a collector's account and start uploading some stuff. Post your uploaded stuff on forums and start collecting points. Soon enough you'll have 10,000 points and you will be able to convert them into a premium account. That's the way I did it.

i dont have a credit card yet and i would create an account but i have no vintage or retro porn to upload to the rapidshare account if i were to create a collectors account.

I have seen something posted on another forum - using a different browser might do it and deleting the rapidshare cookies as you finish - shot down if they keep a record of your IP address...not 100% sure on this one, sorry :redface:
