You know it's amazing to think that this stuff came out of a country that is now so ultra conservative that kissing in movies is banned. Hollywood filmmakers would be wise to ignore that part of Bollywood....

Thanks for the collection...

MBoat this is a fine post. Indian erotic art is one of the most important achievements of Indian civilisation and it still resonates today. Fantastic.

dhavalg: that temple is very old. There are lots of examples of old stuff that was okay back when. Nowadays...a vey different story....

Check out the number of people here who think kissing in movies is a no-no:

I love these people with the "this is not our culture" line. Well, it was at one time. Apparently not anymore....

Well, to be fair, that's rather like saying that because the Romans had gladiatorial contests, sports that involve killing ones opponent are part of Western culture. It would be interesting to me to understand when and why the change occurred. I have heard it said that in the colonial period the erotic temple carvings were held up as an example of how native Indian society was decadent and needed European leadership, which led upper class Indians to become embarassed by their heritage and become even more Victorian when it came to prudery than the Victorians. But I wonder if the Mughul (Islamic) conquest hadn't already caused the change...
