Hello,

I am a newcomer to the vintage forum, and would like to contribute to this attempt to save this important component of our cultural heritage.

I have scanned and posted one mag (Color Climax nr 125 published in January 1984).

Here is the URL of the coverpage : http://rapidshare.com/files/168174517/Color_Climax_125_001_minimini.jpg.html

And here is the URL of the file itself (one 80MO zip file containing jpg files) : http://rapidshare.com/files/165095635/Color_Climax_125.z ip

I have scanned images at 200bpi. Please let me know if the image quality is good enough before I start scanning other ones.

Enjoy !

Nice post - thanks.

The quality is fine, but I think the dimensions/file size are bit on the large size. However, one of the moderators would be better answering that point.

Here comes my second magazine:

Teenage Sex nr 43 published in 1986.

Thanks to Kevin who has edited my previous post to make an easier access to the cover page. Using his technique, the cover page for this issue is:

http://img144.imagevenue.com/loc894/th_64601_Teenage_Sex_43_001_minimini_123_894lo.JPG

and the zip file itself is available at the following URL:

http://rapidshare.com/files/169506229/Teenage_Sex_43.zip

I realize now that I have forgotten to remove the price tag, therefore all of you will know I paid it 50 (swedish crowns)

I'll continue adding other mags, but it takes time :frown:

I hope other members are also willing to share their treasures

Enjoy,

Bjornkuk

Very nice quality scans,i think even Mushi would agree that the Jamaican Diane pics are better then his posts. http://www.myarchives.net/gallery/browseimages.php?c=562 ....At 1800 x 1300 they may be a little big for the gallery, filesize is ok at around 580 kbs?

Thanks for posting these

This time, I have scanned a magazine which is not of the highest quality, but it is the only one for which I own the first number issued.

This mag is called Pigalle and was published in 1983.

The cover page is looking like this : http://img14.imagevenue.com/loc1101/th_76384_Pigalle_1_001_minimini_123_1101lo.JPG

And the file is located at URL : http://rapidshare.com/files/170488480/Pigalle_1.zip

I was wondering if somebody has ever tried to build an inventory of the vintage Porn magazines issued in the 70s'-80s' ? I was thinking of some form of file (spreadsheet ? flat file ? ) containing the following information :

Name of the magazine
Country where it was published
Date of 1st issue
Date of last issue (or "still alive" if it is the case)
Numbers of issues published each year
other informations (to be defined)

and, ideally, the list of the volumes available to our community, with, still more ideally, the URLs where to get them from.

Of course, I understand that if volunteers show up for such a task, a major problem  will be to define a safe way for this file to be updated by several contributors.

If some of you think it is an interesting idea, please get in touch with me.

In the meanwhile, enjoy "Pigalle"

Very nice scans, Björnkuk. I have had this magazine dozens of time. I used to sell these magazine years ago in my shop.
Topsy (Scandinavia)/Silwa (Germany) releases.

If you are hooked on it you might try to start such a 'Magazine Overview' thread if you like.
I will help you as good as I can.

Try to seperate the magazines according to Publishers/Releasers.

About your scans:

They are in a good high quality, but I wonder if your scanner has a 'descreen' function that remove moiree and the raterization traces.
'Raster' is what we call the small dots in professional language. The larger they are the harder they are to remove in a scan.
Sometimes you can remove them in PhotoShop by using 'Gaussian Blur' in small dozes. In other cases you can't remove it without restoring the entire image and then minimize it.
I have had several scanners. The best I ever had was an Artec. But it didn't last long and I couldn't get it repaired.
Now I have a simple Epson combined printer/scanner. It also has the descreen function built in. It covers my needs.

The most used resolution for scans are 300 DPI, but some likes 200 better (although I feel they are much too fuzzy to look at).

The raterization/moiree can often be removed by turning the image slightly on the scanner. We are talking about ½ or 1 degree clockwise.

And be sure to have a mat and black piece of paper on the opposite site of the image you are scanning. It will prevent the print on the other side to shine through.

Many thanks to Mushashi7 for his advice.

I am using a Canon Pixma MP760 multifunction scanner.

Scan resolution can be chosen from 50 to 1600 dpi

The software has a few options to improve the images :

"moire " removal (on/off)
"defect" removal (off/low/medium/high) (I don't know which defects are supposed to be removed)
"grain" removal (off/low/medium/high) (I believe that this is the "descreen function" as "grain" in French is the equivalent of "dots")

I have used "moire removal" on for my previous scan (Pigalle_1) as its effect was obvious even for a beginner like me:biggrin:.

I have done a few attempts enclosed in the following zip : http://rapidshare.com/files/170856721/Hard_Core_26.zip

The "moire removal" is always on
The filename indicates

the scan resolution (200 or 300 dpi) and the options turned on :
grain ("off" when not in the filename, "high" if grain-high included in the filename)
defect removal ( as above "off" or "high"

I believe the "defect removal" stuff is not working well, and contributes to increase the file size. In addition, when combined with grain, it seems not to function at all:mad:.

The "grain" option seems to be very effective, and the 300dpi_grain-high mode seems to be the best quality I can achieve, but the 200dpi_grain-high is not bad either, and goes much faster, not to mention the image size being divided by a factor of to when going from 300 to 200 dpi.

I have not tried to rotate the image as Mushashi7 suggested.

I would appreciate to have your comments on these images, and let me know which option combination I should use for my future posts.

How well do you know your PhotoShop?

You can remove the noise by Gaussian Blur. But be careful.
I advise you to remove the noise by selecting each color channel seperately. Just highlight each cannel by clicking on the small palette to your right (where it says Layers, Channels, Pathts). Then you can also see what channel suffer the most.

I would however try the built in descreen functions first.

Rotating the image clockwise is something you do to make the raster pattern in teh picture fit the scanners pattern as well as it can.

As for color adjustments:

There is no reason to use Auto Levels, Auto Color etc. when you produce magazine scans. Let others do it if them selves after they have downloaded it if they want to change something. - I say this because it is a fact that you loose data every single time you change something in a scan. The lesser change the more original data.

I do however often change the seperate colors in a scanned image by chosing:

Image --> Adjustments --> Selective Color.

In this function you can manually decide how each color should behave in the picture.
(Yes, you do loose data here as well)
But the thing is that printed material (digital also for that matter) has to create the values of light intensity from a certain palette. We are not dealing in natural light anymore. It is artificial in any way. What we see is not real. It is an illusion. And an illusion has to be good to fool the viewer, doesn't it?

Back to the 'Image --> Adjustments --> Selective Color'.

You see a slide bar appear for each color.
Now you can treat each color as if it was an ingredient in a cake you are about to bake.
I usually process the red and yellow color here.
I remove some Cyan (drag the slide to the left) until is reach a more pure value.
There is almost always a lot of cyan in the red color channel to create a feeling of depth in the image. Same goes for the yellow.
You must not remove very much, or else the color will be too fuzzy and loose its identity. It is something you have to fiddle with a bit.

Sometimes it is a good thing to go away from the PC for a while and return to see if it still feels ok or not (the brain tends to compensate and produce the complementary color and fool you for a moment, and you need to avoid that).

Thanks to Mushashi7 who has provided several useful informations regarding scanning parameters. After several attempts I have found out that the best parameter setting for my scanner is 300 dpi with "grain removal" set to high (that's what Mushashi7 calls "descreen". I don't have Photoshop:mad:, so I have not tried to further improve the images.

I have scanned "Hard Core" issue 26, published in november 87.

Hey bjornkuk, thanks a lot for your effort! Highly appreciated. :)
I did some scans myself for the VEF forum, and will post some Silwa magazines on this forum. Also, I never realy got into the details of scanning, my scans look fine but I might review my scanning techniques.

Take care!

Hi folks

I just bought TSG #14, but I realized that some pages were missing.:frown:.. I scanned it nevertheless, and would highly appreciate:biggrin: if someone could provide the missing pages (27, 28, 49, and 50 and maybe 4 more pages). I have skipped these numbers in the sequence, assuming only 4 pages are missing.

I found the story about Hamburg's (i live there) Sex theatre scene pretty detailed with telephone numbers and so on... maybe Renee Durand wasn't too happy about this. Could this be the reason for withdrawing this magazine ?

Hey all, does anyone have any knowledge of where I could find one particular photo shoot? It was posted on a Horny Rob news group ages ago as HR-117 pr and there were just a few picture of a cute young lady in a white shirt giving head to some lucky guy. Does anyone have any idea where I could start looking for that?
Thanks!
