I have a standard problem with .vob files.......how do you play them in Vista etc?

I have read that "just" by changing the file extension from .vob to say .mpg or .avi it will play in mediaplayer. But, as Mrs Beaton would say about making rabbit pie, first catch your rabbit. How do you change the file extension in Vista - it 'aint so easy as in the good old DOS days.

Many thanks in anticipation...

To not compromise the quality. Personally, I'd love it if everyone just ripped their DVDs, using DVD Decryptor, and uploaded them, untouched.

All you have to do is use VLC Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) or DiVX player.

VOB isn't just some weird format, for which there's an alternative; it's literal DVD quality! It's the only format that's DVD quality!

If you run Vista in 'Classic' mode all files will display their extensions in Windows Explorer and allow you to change them if you are sure that is what you want to do. I know Classic mode doesn't give you all the bells & whistles of Vista, but I still prefer the older style UI.

I also agree that VLC or DivX is the best route for .vob files.

Download VLC player and it will run VOB nicely!
