Tips For Joining / Playing Movies / Converting Movies

This might be old hat and most will know what and how to do but as new people join the forum they tend to ask the same questions.

1). Joining movie parts.......... extensions zip/rar simple solutions use winrar or winzip or hundreds of free ones out there.

2). 001 extensions are simply HJsplit files, easy way to split a large movie into smaller and more manageable chunks. Use HJsplit and it will auto join all given parts to re-join the full movie, its that simple.

3). Codecs......... sounds difficult....... but easy. K-Lite Codec Pack is free and one of the very best, install and thats it.

4). Movie Players. A nightmare or not ?. Several very good ones caome to mind, Crystal......... Zooplayer........ Divx Player......... JAudio to name a few.

5). Movie In Separate Playable Parts. Simple all you need is a movie joiner, several free ones are available, I use Mpeg Joiner & Joiner exe.

6). Movie "hangs", "stops" is erratic when playing. Solution VideoFixer, cures 99% of playback problems.

7).Conerting AVI to MPEG or other formats. My Video Converter - Magic Video Converter - Total Video Converter to name a few.

I hope the above is helpful and cures a few problems that we all cross from time to time.

Thanks for the information, as you say most of this is already known. However, I have had many problems with codecs and will try the K-Lite Codec Pack which I was unaware of.

OK...My problem is finding a burner program that will let me burn the movies I've downloaded from here to dvd. My current program, Nero 7 won't allow it...and, with money so damn tight...I need to find out what program will allow this to happen.

I have no problem with Nero.

Chose 'Data Disc' when you start. Then you can put anything onto the disc.

Have you looked into Sonic Record Now. I find Nero too complicated. Sonic has a much intuitive interface.

For simple burning, I'd suggest http://cdburnerxp.se/ , it burns everything simple and easy, CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. But you can't make nice DVD Menues with it (IIRC).

If anyone could suggest a tested, free and usable software to create (clickable) DVD menues, and at least makes an ISO but may also burn, thanks!

I haven't tried the above mentioned burners. They sound good.

I always used Nero (since the stoneages...).

I have only one setting: 'Create Data Disc'. No fancy menu's or anything else.
I even lets me burn a video on 2.5 Gigs if I want to.


Regarding Video Editing /Converting etc. I have begun to use AVS Video Editor. A fantastic program that can do anything - also edit *.VOB files directly.
I think it was 'gdrsrsdg' who pointed me to it.

You have to select all the thumbs you want to join in one row.
Click on the first image, hold Shift down and then click the last image.
Then you can join them. And it will only use the selected images to make the sheet.

Normally ImageJoiner calls the joined sheet for 'Joined.jpg'. It places it in the same folder as the small screenshots you just used to make the sheet from.

BeachDude, I'd suggest Virtual Dub. You'll have to play around a bit until you find the right settings for you, but it's free and can do a lot! It may even help s@br@. As always it depends on what codecs you've installed, you've got the k-lite package?

heres a problem you can hopefully solve. Downloaded a german movie. it lists english as an alternative language on the slick. how do you get that to work. the dvd players and vlc dont pick up the fact that another language is available.
