can't play mpeg file

When ever I try to play Mpeg files my realplayer says I am
missing software contacts realplayer and then says
there are no updates. Am I using the wrong player
or is there somewhere I can get the software

I presume you are using Windows as OS, and Realplayer cannot play .mpeg-files. You will have to use Windows Media Player or an equivalent like K-Lite Codec Pack. I use the last one myself, as this one can play all video files except for licenced files. The advantage: I do not need to have Realplayer, Quicktime and other players installed.

It will install two players: Media Player Classic and BS Player Pro. The first one plays the most common files and even dvd's, and the last one takes .avi-files.
