Does anyone know what ever became of Starr Murphy? I don't think she was around too long, but I liked what I saw of her when she was active.

Threads elsewhere chronicle three children out of wedlock, and suggest a double mastectomy and current life as a homeless person.
Sad for one who brought joy to so many. Maybe MA needs a charity fund as maintained for actors, pro athletes and other entertainers?

I don't know much about her, and nothing of her present circumstances. I offer the following:
1) She is occasionally referred to as a "stripper". If she was, it was only local work in California. None of the 200+ photos in her folder show her on stage. Strippers were generally proud of their work and would have pictures.
2) "Starr" was probably not her real name. It is a male name, like the Starr King School for the Ministry, named after an early-20th-Century Unitarian minister. Her real first name was more likely Starrlynn or Starrlene.
3) She had a relatively long career. I've seen a spread of her in a 1966 magazine, but at least one agent referred to her as working in 1970.
4) A couple of special magazines featuring her were done by Parliament News Publishing. They only did those using models who were available in California.
5) Some of her photos show a ring or a white circle where a wedding ring would be, which would indicate that she was married at some point in her modeling career.

Starr is my #1 fave - she was in the 1st mag I ever bought - Gent '70 (I think) Annual. I'm a big collector & have a huge stack of original 8x10s , along with negatives, transparencies & slides.
On the back of each 8x10 most of the studios wrote or typed the model's name & there was an evolution. She went from

FINALLY starting to get my 8x10s into some kinda order, so perhaps one day soon. Unfortunately I have no way to do anything at this time with slides, negatives & transparancies - I had a friend who started to do this on professional equipment, but family illness forced him to move back to Australia. Anyone know of any good, fairly inexpensive equipment (besides flatbed scanners) to get those onto computer files?

If you check the posts by themole in the folder with Ms Murphy's photos, he has quite a bit of information about her. Interestingly, he confirms one of my speculations, that she was never a stripper.

Assuming you are referring to 35mm format what you need is a small slide/negative scanner similar to these.

I have a similar one (bought from Firebox some 2 years ago after our son moved out taking his £600 Nikon Coolscan with him:smile:) and it works very well.
I don't know where you are based but this company does deliver worldwide and has a US based site (the links are to the UK site - there is a link to the US site at the top right corner of the page), although I am sure there are companies in most countries that can supply similar devices.

Same here. My top three are Suzanne, Penny Ellington and Starr.
Here's what I use.

Has 4-slide wells and film strip holder
A friend of mine had one of those dedicated slide scanners, but I found it was not that good.

THANKS! Tony T & hndl. Tony, seems that you're UK based, most of their product was only available from the UK site. hndl, I'd had my eye on the Epson, so as you recommended it (I was trying to avoid a flat-bed) I took another look at the 1660 Turns out it's been replaced by the new 4490 & Amazon has it on sale, so I'm taking the plunge

I HATE scanning, but I'll try to do at least one today. I have a couple file photos that the company used for identification - a good portrait of the model with a piece of masking tape on the top with the model's name...

OK, my 1st image is now up. It's interesting - a file pic labeled as "Scott, Starline", with Scott crossed out & replaced by Scought.
Just found some discs that my friend Tony of Classicgals did for me before he went back to Australia - it's a few hundred images of diferent models taken from my slides, negs & transparencies

Thanks Kevin! Getting on this forum has forced me for the 1st time to get my pics in order. Even better was finding a few discs from my original negs, slides & transparencies. My friend Tony from Clasicgals was scanning them for me on his professional equipment before heading back to your neck of the woods, Australia. Question - how do I add pics for models who don't have files? I have a bunch of faves like Alice Friedland, Chrystal Thompson (she was in Fling, so may have a totally different name here), Lili Duchee, etc? I'll put up one more tonight, Lori Wells...s

Hey, Collector!
Thanks for starting to share your rare SM pictures.
Who is your avatar? The chest in the nude photos look familiar, but the mag is too small to see the face clearly, even at 400%.
I imagine some of the other members will quickly chime in and identify her as a model I know well, much to my embarrassment.
Looks like a personal shot, you lucky dawg!

Glad you appreciate the pics! I've never really had anywhere to place them before finding this site.
As for my avatar, that is the gorgeous Deena Duos. She was an all-time fave in the mid-90s, disappeared & we connected on the net. A few years ago she made a comeback & we happened to get together the day after her Gent layout came out, the 1st one since the 90s, so she is justifiably proud! And yes, I did take the pic...
