View Full Version : I Hate Work!

Sometimes I go months without posting anything here. That's not because I lose interest; it's because I have to work.

It's Dad's fault. In 1947 he could have bought 100 shares of National Halide for $400. Sometime in the 1970s he could have sold the 6,400 or so shares of Xerox that it became for about half a megabuck. Do that a few times, and I wouldn't have to work. I could spend my time here, or over in the Newsgroups, fishing.

This internet thing has more than its share of very wise women. Diana the Valkyrie once told me that if a picture exists, eventually it will show up in the Newsgroups. So far she's right. I need to mine the net more.

Alas, the wife and urchin expect me to produce some money. Drat!

So far I haven't figured out a way to make money off my hobby, which is a personal shortcoming of mine. I suppose I should have built a web site instead of a scad of Yahoo groups, but it's fun anyway. :)

She is an interesting icon on the internet, I don't really know much about her other than her website seems to be MASSIVE with all kinds of areas devoted to all types of women.
Finding pics on the net is kind of like what they say about Times Square in that if you stand there long enough you will meet everyone you have ever known.

I've found a lot of my stuff from the newsgroups. But Kevin always seems to beat me to the punch. Guess it helps he's a day ahead of me. :( ;)

In 1997 or 1998 (about two internet lifetimes ago) I joined her site for access to the newsgroups and the Ladybumps gallery. After a year or so I sent her some scans to add to the galleries, and we started writing back and forth.

I love her site; its design is relatively simple (considering the mountain range of material she has) and everything is indexed. I also admire her idiosyncratic method of pricing: She has the same subscription plan she had ten years ago; she charges a rate denominated in U.S. dollars, but subject to conversion into British pounds. So each month she charges (for example) US $10, but one month the credit card will be billed US$9.98; the next month, US$10.04.

The amazing thing is that a member can, with her newsgroup index and search function, get a zip file with every picture of, say, Nika Movenka, that has come across the newsgroups since 2004 or so.

Of course, some of the galleries haven't been updated since 2001 or so. But she had an intuitive sense of how easy it would be to collect and store everything in the virtual world.
